I wrote this script and produced this video with one of my childhood heroes – Walter Cronkite.
The highlight of this project was that I got to go to Mr. Cronkite’s offices at CBS News in Manhattan and spend an hour or so with Mr. Cronkite.
His offices was like a museum. It was filled with items, photos, posters, memorabilia from every major news event over the previous 50 years including the Vietnam War, the assassinations of President Kennedy, his brother Robert and Martin Luther King, man’s first walk on the moon, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the attempted assassination of President Reagan, etc.
While Mr. Cronkite read my script, I browsed around his office in awe of all the crucial, historic moments he brought to the American people. No wonder they called him the most trusted man in America.
Before we recorded him, Mr. Cronkite asked me all kinds of questions about what caused clefts, how the surgery worked, etc. He was sharp as a tack.
After we shot this video I stayed in touch with Mr. Cronkite and he helped us raise money and awareness for Smile Train.
Walter Cronkite was a great man and we were all very grateful to have his help and support.
